Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe and the world's only remaining Grand Duchy (constitutional monarchy ruled by Grand Duke). One of the six founding members of the European Union (1957), Luxembourg is also a founding member of NATO, Benelux, and the United Nations. Despite its tiny size (2,586 km², smaller than Rhode Island), Luxembourg has the world's highest GDP per capita and is a major international financial center. Visitors are drawn to Luxembourg City's fortifications and old town, Bock Casemates underground tunnels, Grund neighborhood, European institutions (Court of Justice, European Investment Bank), Vianden Castle, Mullerthal 'Little Switzerland' hiking region, Moselle wine valley, free public transport (nationwide since 2020), and castle country. Visa Requirements for Luxembourg

As a Schengen Area founding member, Luxembourg follows standard Schengen visa policies. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can enter with just a valid ID card or passport and stay indefinitely with full freedom of movement rights. Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and many other countries can enter visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Those requiring Schengen visas should apply through Luxembourg embassies or consulates, submitting completed applications, passport photographs, travel itinerary, proof of accommodation, travel insurance (minimum €30,000 coverage), and proof of financial means. Processing typically takes 15 calendar days. Luxembourg is historically significant in European integration - the 1985 Schengen Agreement that abolished internal borders was signed in the Luxembourg village of Schengen on the Moselle River. Luxembourg offers excellent access to Western Europe with well-connected transport to Belgium, Germany, and France.

Up to 90 days within 180-day period; valid for all Schengen countries including Luxembourg; single, double, or multiple entry; processing typically 15 days; costs €80 for adults, €40 for children 6-12, free under 6.

For short-term stays including tourism, business, cultural events for nationalities requiring Schengen visa.

National Visa (Type D)
