Australian visa applications are lodged online through ImmiAccount, the Department of Home Affairs' central application portal — the Consulate-General does not operate a public visa-application counter. After online lodgement applicants attend the VFS Australia Mumbai Visa Application Centre at Bandra-Kurla Complex for biometric capture and document submission. The Consulate-General provides regional operational coordination for the western Indian catchment but does not directly process applications.
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. Australia maintains the High Commission in New Delhi for the northern, central and India-wide passport workload, plus Consulates-General in Bengaluru (Karnataka and Telangana), Chennai (Tamil Nadu and the broader south) and Kolkata (eastern India).
Indian student visa applications are filed online through ImmiAccount under subclass 500 (Student Visa). Applicants need an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment from an Australian education provider, satisfactory English-language proof (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE), Genuine Temporary Entrant evidence, Overseas Student Health Cover and financial-capacity documentation. After online lodgement, biometric capture is at VFS Australia Mumbai. Mumbai is one of the largest single sources of Indian students at Australian universities — particularly at the postgraduate level in IT, accounting, healthcare, engineering and business.
